REPUBLIC, Mo. -- A great week of basketball at the Class 4 District 11 Tournament in Republic came to an exhilarating close on Saturday afternoon, as Dorial Green-Beckham and the Hillcrest Hornets outlasted a tough Rogersville squad in a 56-50 overtime victory.

Rogersville nearly won the game in regulation, as Joe Young’s last second shot rimmed out and Aaron Orchard's put back attempt circled the rim but did not fall.  The first quarter was a sign of things to come, as Hillcrest ran out to a 12-9 first quarter lead over Coach Rod Gorman’s Rogersville team.  The packed house at Republic saw Rogersville answer Hillcrest’s first quarter dominance with a run of their own, as the Wildcats outscored Hillcrest 13-9 to take a slim 22-21 lead at halftime.

The game would remain close in the third quarter, as both teams traded buckets.  Rogersville was able to maintain a 36-34 lead over Hillcrest going into the fourth quarter, as Joe Young and Aaron Orchard’s strong play kept Rogersville on top.

Hillcrest turned up its defensive intensity in the fourth quarter, and Dorial Green-Beckham made several key baskets to help Hillcrest tie the game at 43 with one minute to go.

Rogersville's last second attempt fell just short and the two teams headed to overtime in the district championship game.

DGB would take over in the extra period, scoring several key baskets to give Hillcrest the 56-50 victory and propel them into a sectional showdown next Wednesday versus McDonald County (in Willard).

DGB finished with 23 points, and passed the 2,000 point mark for his career (he now stands at 2,007).  Austin Petry added 15 points for the Hornets.

For Rogersville, Joe Young led all scorers with 24 points, and Aaron Orchard added 10.
