SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Drury Panthers softball team hosted its home opener today at Thompson Field at Meador Park against Northwest Missouri State University.

In the first game, the Panthers defeated the winless Bearcats 4-1, highlighted by a two run homerun off of the bat of Denise Taylor.

The second game was a bit closer. Drury's Regina Norris would score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when Amber Hayden hit a single into left field.

Panthers won 2-1.

Next up for the red and black will be the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday in Edmond at one and three in the afternoon.

In high school girls district basketball, it was a match up of rivals.

First up was the Glendale Falcons against the Kickapoo Chiefs. Kickapoo ended the first half down by one due to a three quarter court shot at the buzzer.

In the second half it would be all Glendale as the Falcons would keep the Chiefs in check and advance to the final on Friday by a score of 45-37

The second game would pit Ozark against Nixa and it proved to be a battle as well.

The Tigers would go into the half with a one point lead and in the second half stay on top of the Eagles for the rest of the game.

Ozark beat the Eagles 54-41 and will face Glendale for the district championship on Friday at Drury's O'Reilly Family Events Center.
