SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police identified two people who died in a crash at the intersection of Scenic Avenue at Elm Street on Sunday morning.  Police say they were Kathy Newman, 60, and Joshua Sportsman, 24, both of Springfield.

Police said Sportsman was in a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado that ran a stop sign and crashed into the 1996 Jeep Cherokee that Newman was driving.  There were no passengers in the Cherokee.

There was another person in the Silverado who survived the crash, but police said officers said Monday that they were still trying to determine who was driving. They've not released the identity of the second person in the pickup.  That person was injured.

Police said high speed and possibly impairment contributed to the crash.  They say the westbound Silverado ran a stop sign and crashed into the southbound Cherokee.
