SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A woman and man are in custody after they tried to cash stolen checks at a bank on the west side of the city on Monday morning.  Liberty Bank employees called police to the branch at 210 N. West Bypass after they became suspicious of a woman trying to endorse the checks.

Police arrrested the woman along with a man described as a "person of interest" in a recent robbery at a Dollar General store on West Chestnut Expressway in which the robber pulled out a machete at  the checkout count and demanded money.

Springfield Police Dept. spokesman Cpl. Matt Brown said at midday Monday that investigators were holding the two people for questioning.
