(edited news release) JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. --  Missouri’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest point in three years during December 2011, according to data released on Tuesday by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED).

Missouri’s unemployment rate fell to 8.0 percent, down two-tenths of a point from the November 2011 figure, on a seasonally-adjusted basis.  The state’s unemployment rate has now fallen 1.7 percentage points since January 2011.  The last time Missouri’s unemployment rate was at 8.0 was January 2009.

In comparison, the U.S. unemployment rate for December 2011 was 8.5 percent on a seasonally-adjusted basis.

Overall, nonfarm payroll employment fell by 11,800 in December on a seasonally-adjusted basis. That included seasonal losses in private educational services because of holiday/semester breaks at most colleges and universities.
