LOCKWOOD, Mo. -- The father of an Afghanistan war veteran who was killed last year at a southwest Missouri home has died in a one-vehicle crash. The crash happened Sunday afternoon on Route D--six miles northwest of Lockwood.
Troopers say Philip Clayton was killed when his truck ran off the road, hit a culvert and flipped into a creek. The victim was 60 years old.
A suspect had recently been charged in the killing of his son.
Thirty-year-old Chad Clayton was found beaten to death in July in his Lockwood home. A 28-year-old man was arrested last week and charged with second-degree murder. In October, Chad Clayton's mother - who was Philip Clayton's ex-wife - died of cancer.
