Investigation can't find cause for 2 students fainting at school in Nixa

January 10, 2012|by KY3 News

NIXA, Mo. -- Two students fainted at Espy Elementary School on Tuesday morning.  Investigators could not find any environmental danger in the classroom.  Here's a letter that the Nixa School District sent to parents later in the day.

----

Dear Espy Parents,

Today at approximately 8:25 A.M. two students appeared to have passed out and fell in the music room.  There were also reports of a faint smell in the classroom.   As a precaution, the Nixa Fire Department directed the district to keep the south wing of the building (2nd - 4th grade classrooms) in their rooms until the source of the smell could be determined.

The Nixa Fire Department, Christian County Health Department, Logan-Rogersville Fire Department, and the Christian County Emergency Management team along with Nixa Public Schools personnel worked together to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  According to the Nixa Fire Department, Espy has been cleared to return to our normal routine.  They found no evidence of any danger in the building.

Medical personnel were available for staff and students if needed.  The main impact on students was a delayed lunch period and limited access to restrooms.

Please feel free to contact the school at 875-5650 if you have any questions or concerns.  We apologize for any inconvenience that your children or you may have experienced.

Above all, we wanted to make sure that we did all that we could to ensure your child’s safety in this situation.

Thank you,

Michelle Wilkerson, Principal

Espy Elementary
