SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- These are the top 20 stories on KY3.com in 2011 as determined by the number of page views per story.  Most of the stories have a link to the original content.  You'll see a short graph with some details on the story.  Keep in mind, however, that details on many of the stories changed over time.  That's why you'll see the date the story was published next to most of the stories on the top 20 list.

1. Tornado strikes Joplin (May 22) A tornado killed at least 116 people on Sunday afternoon. It hit St. John's Regional Medical Center on the south side of the city and collapsed the roofs of two city fire stations. It also heavily damaged Joplin High School, which had its graduation ceremony on Sunday at Missouri Southern State University.

2. People felt quake in 5 states (Feb. 28) The largest earthquake to hit Arkansas in 35 years also shook parts of Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Mississippi on Sunday night. This comes in a swarm of about 800 earthquakes to strike north central Arkansas since September. The magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit just after 11 p.m. Sunday, and was felt for hundreds of miles. This biggest one yet has everyone wondering what's next and what's causing all the quakes.

3. Man arrested for hiding under high school girl's bed (Nov. 2) A Douglas County deputy was dispatched to a burglary in progress with an intruder in the house Monday evening. As Deputy Gilbert was responding, he was advised the male subject later identified as Sean Roberson, age 23 of Springfield, had exited the residence by jumping through a double pane window and breaking it.

5. Man from Hartville charged with stabbing murder  (Dec. 8) The Wright County prosecuting attorney charged Terry Joe Volner on Thursday for the murder of Dusty Guenther, 4, on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old man was treated at a hospital in Springfield after the boy's body was found on Wednesday morning in an ice-covered lagoon next to the home of the boy's family in northern Wright County.

6. Teen charged with setting dog on fire (June 8)  A teen girl and an adult relative in Kansas City face animal abuse charges after police say the teen set a black Lab puppy on fire in the backyard of her family's home.  Maria Alarcon, 43, of Kansas City, Missouri, faces animal neglect charges because authorities say she waited a day before getting Phoenix to a veterinary office for care after her 14-year-old relative allegedly hit the dog with a shovel, poured gasoline on him and set him on fire.

7. Woman dies in car outside Taco Bell (Aug. 8) City police closed a Taco Bell restaurant on West Bypass at Chestnut Expressway on Monday morning after a woman was found dead behind the wheel of a car in its driveway.  Officers received the 911 call at 7:02 a.m. and found the victim in a maroon Hyundai Elantra.  It appears the driver pulled into the parking lot off Chestnut and came to a stop in the middle of the driveway.  A reporter could see blood on the body's shoulder.  There was no visible damage to the outside of the car.  

8. 10-year-old girl gives birth (News Share from KTLA) A 10-year-old girl has given birth in southern Spain and authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby.

9. May 21 Judgment Day? (May 10)  Harold Camping's doomsday predictions failed to materialize. 

10. Sedalia tornado (May 25)  Homes have been destroyed and trucks overturned by a tornado that heavily damaged a school bus barn and left at least 15 people with minor injuries in the west-central Missouri community of Sedalia.

11. Dead baby wakes up during funeral KTLA (Aug. 3) A newborn in Araxa, Brazil, was just minutes away from being buried alive when the "dead" little girl suddenly started crying at her own funeral.  The infant had been declared dead after being delivered prematurely.

12. Crash on slick freeway kills woman (Feb. 9)  A 29-year-old woman from Springfield died Wednesday morning after losing control and crashing her sport utility vehicle on James River Freeway (U.S. 60/Missouri 13).  Crystal Gentry's vehicle knocked down a sign on the side of the highway.  City police say Gentry's two children in the vehicle have minor injuries and were treated at a hospital.  They were in child safety seats; they're 4 and 6 years old.
