Important shipping dates for Christmas delivery

December 01, 2011|by Sara Forhetz, KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--  The US Postal Service says there are a few things you need to do to make sure the gift you sent is there by Christmas morning.

First of all make sure you have the correct address.
The Postal Service recommends sending gifts and other packages in one of its flat rate boxes that offers one low rate to any state.

The boxes are free and can be delivered right to your home.

Also, you can save time by mailing online, just log on to usps.com and schedule a pickup time and location.

Some important dates to remember if you're shipping for Christmas: ship gifts by December 3 for packages going to Afghanistan.  Ship by December 10 for other overseas bases.

Mail packages by December 15 to reach domestic destinations and save the most money.
You can find more holiday shipping tips through the postal service Web-site.
