OTC's midnight classes gets national attention

November 13, 2011|KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD — It's a story that made NBC's Nightly News Sunday evening.

Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield is one of a handful of colleges that offers midnight courses.

The campus has several classes at the midnight hour including math, political science and public speaking.  Campus leaders say it gives students who work during the day another option to get a full education.

"Community colleges are full but nobody is so full that they can't offer classes at some point," OTC President, Dr. Hal Higdon said. "We just had to find the time of the day that we had room, and that was midnight."

"There's not as many students so you can get a lot more interaction out of people and get to know people," OTC student Craig Williams said.

There's also the price difference, the night courses cost around $260, far less than many four year colleges.
