Site of new City Utilities water tower is still up in the air

October 27, 2011|by KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The city's Board of Public Utilities delayed a vote on purchasing property near Evans Road at U.S. 65 for a new water tower.  The staff of City Utilities of Springfield has studied several sites in the area and believes it's the best site, but people who live in Wildwood Estates don't want it near their homes.

At their monthly meeting on Thursday, board members asked CU staff to evaluate additional information about all available sites and options for the tower.   A board committee on Tuesday recommended that the full board approve the site.

During the last several years, CU staff members say they have searched for available land in the southeast area that is near existing water mains and meets geographic and elevation requirements for the construction of the water tower.   They say a tower is needed to boost low water pressure in the area and to meet the needs of the growing area, including a new St. John's Orthopedic Hospital at the intersection of Evans Road at U.S. 65.
