MILDRED, Mo. -- A man from Spokane who was swimming to retrieve his empty canoe that drifted off the shore of Bull Shoals Lake drowned on Tuesday afternoon. Friends of Jason Sissel, 25, saw him go underwater and not resurface about 4 p.m.
Sgt. Jason Pace, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop D, says divers from the Water Patrol division tried to find Sissels body for about two hours until darkness fell. Dive teams and officers in boats with sonar resumed the search on Wednesday morning and found the body on Wednesday afternoon.
The search site was at the end of Deer Lane, off Highway MM east of Kirbyville and south of Powersite in Taney County.
