Regal-Beloit celebrates milestone at small engine manufacturing plant in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Regal Beloit had a ceremony on Wednesday for the 10 millionth Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) produced at its plant at 2401 E. Sunshine St.  Mayor Jim O'Neal joined company and manufacturing association officials at the celebration.

Regal Beloit (NYSE:RBC) is a leading manufacturer of mechanical and electrical motion control and power generation products serving markets throughout the world.  Regal Beloit is headquartered in Beloit, Wis., and has manufacturing, sales, and service facilities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia.

Springfield Plant facts

· Built by Royal Typewriter in 1959
· Selected as one of the 10 best plants during 1960 by Factory Magazine
· On 44-acre site
· More than 315,000 square feet
· Purchased and renovated by GE in 1970
· Electronically Commutated Motor (ECM) was introduced in 1982 and was regarded as a major innovation in motor technology.
· First ECM motors were the 18-pole ceiling fan motors
· First HVAC application ECM (generation 1.0) was manufactured in 1985
· First integrated ECM motor and control unit (ICM 1.0) was made in 1988
· $1.8 million was spent in 1992 to develop the Salient Pole ECM, which used new stator core design and winding methods
· Plant acquired by Regal-Beloit on Dec. 31, 2004
· Wind and Assembly of 48-Frame High Efficiency Variable Speed ECM
· Parts supplier to Regal-Beloit facilities in Reynosa and Piedras Negras, Mexico
· FASCO parts fabrication began in 2009
· OSHA Voluntary Protection STAR site since 2000
· ISO 9001:2008 Registered
· Missouri Water Environment Association Gold Award
