A Warm Couple of Days

This afternoon shaped up to be a nice one with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s for highs.  We saw a few fair weather cumulus clouds in the sky today but nothing that blocked the nice sunshine all day long.  Overnight, skies will be mostly clear with light winds out of the south and low temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.  The mercury will really start to rise on Monday and Tuesday when we're expected near-record high temperatures!  The forecasted high on October 24th is 78 degrees.  The record for that day is 84 degrees.  The forecasted high for October 25th is 80 degrees and the record is 85 degrees.  We will likely not break these records, but our afternoon high temperatures will be in record-breaking territory.  Expect a windy day on Tuesday as the next system approaches us from the west and increases the pressure gradient.

Thunder and Lightning

Storms are expected late on Tuesday night through Thursday morning as the next frontal boundary approaches the Ozarks.  Wednesday looks like best shot at widespread precipitation with some heavy rainfall possible.  We could really use the rain!  As of this today, Springfield is still 4.86 inches behind on precipitation.

Temperatures Plummet

After the storms end early Thursday morning, we will have a hard time get out of the 50s for afternoon high temperatures.  Lows will also return to the 30s.  This cooler airmass will stick around through the end of the week.  Looks like fall will return once again!

Have a great evening,
