SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Paul Mueller Company says it will announce plans to expand and create hundreds of new jobs over the next three years. Gov. Jay Nixon's staff says he will be at the news conference for the announcement on Wednesday morning.
Paul Mueller manufactures stainless steel tanks and machinery for the food industry at its plant on the southwest corner of Kansas Expressway at Chestnut Expressway. The 71-year-old company has a long history of cycles of hiring and layoffs. It sometimes has rocky relations with labor unions representing its employees. Company executives also often shy away from reporters' questions when labor issues arise.
As of last summer, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce listed Paul Mueller with 450 employees in the Springfield metro area and 729 company-wide. The company has a plant in Osceola, Iowa, and subsidiaries in other places in the United States and Europe.
