2 fires in Greene County lead to charges against 2 men

August 23, 2011|edited news release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Two men are charged for two fires in rural Greene County this month near Willard.  Adam Grant, 24, and Michael Duncan III, 19, are each charged with three crimes of second-degree burglary, second-degree arson and knowingly burning.

The first fire was in a vacant home (photo) at 5807 N. Farm Road 95 on Aug. 11.  The hay bales fire was at 8368 W. Farm Road 84 on Aug. 18.

Grant was in the Greene County jail on Tuesday in lieu of a $7,500 bond.  A judge released Duncan on his own recognizance (no bond required) and ordered him, over the protest of a prosecutor, to be under house arrest except to go to school or court.

If they're convicted, Duncan and Grant could get prison sentences up to seven years for burglary and arson, and up to four years for knowingly burning, and/or fines up to $5,000 for each crime.   (Knowingly burning is the charge for a purposely set fire of something that is not habitable.)
