Plant in Licking is closed after explosion, fire

July 26, 2011|by KY3 News

Licking, Mo. -- An explosion at a manufacturing plant on Tuesday is under investigation.  Several fire departments were called to Ozarks Shavings when flames broke out after the explosion.

The business makes wood shavings used in animal pens and cages.  Workers and firefighters had to spray water throughout the factory to keep more dry wood from catching fire and causing more explosions.

Much of the building and equipment was spared, and the owner hopes the plant can reopen in two or three months.  None of the 40 or so workers were injured, though two firefighters had to be treated for heat exhaustion.
