Accident closes I-44 near Springfield for six hours

July 17, 2011|KY3 News

SPRINGFIELD — The interstate is back open, after a semi crash completely shut down the busy highway.

It happened Sunday morning near eastbound mile marker 73; that's just outside the Springfield city limits.

Troopers say the driver of the semi lost control of the big rig.  It went off the road, hit a guard rail and flipped over.  The driver and his passenger suffered serious injuries.

All four lanes of the interstate were shut down for nearly six hours while crews cleaned up the mess.
