BATTLEFIELD, Mo. — A man dies following an incident with law enforcement in Battlefield Saturday afternoon.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office says a man, wearing only his underwear, was trying to break into Battlefield City Hall.
When officers arrived, the suspect became violent. Three county deputies and a Battlefield Police officer responded just after 1 p.m. The suspect was hit with pepper spray and tased; neither of which had an affect. A report from the Greene County Sheriff's Office says the deputies reported the man appeared to be under the influence of a controled substance.
The man was finally subdued and sent to a Springfield hospital where he died around 3 p.m. His name has not been released. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Columbia.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will shadow the sheriff's investigation the altercation; standard in deputy-suspect related incidents which turn fatal.
