HOT, CHANCE FOR RAIN TODAY
Temperatures are expected to be slightly cooler today than recent days but still hot. Highs will top out in the mid 90s with the heat index close to 100 degrees. A frontal boundary will be located in or around central Missouri for the next few days and thunderstorms are possible under partly cloudy skies again today. Lows tonight will cool to near 70 degrees and we could see a few storms on the radar overnight.
While chances for rain appear to be higher today, there is at least a slight chance for scattered storms on our Fourth of July tomorrow. It will also be a hot holiday this year and if temperatures make it to the forecasted 94 degrees it will be the hottest Independence Day since 1994 in Springfield. Highs will stay in the mid 90s through the first part of the week and will then cool a bit into the low 90s.
MANY RAIN CHANCES
Upper level high pressure will remain west of the region through the extended forecast which puts us in a pattern favorable for thunderstorms. There is a chance for rain and storms each and every day through the week and into next weekend. I don't expect a continuous downpour of rain but scattered storms could show up on the radar at some point over some locations each day.
