Joplin tornado death toll rises to 155

JOPLIN, Mo. -- The City's staff learned Monday of an additional death from injuries sustained during the tornado on May 22.  This brings the fatality total to 155.  The most recent death was Edmon A. Cooper.   The total list of 155 fatalities is attached at the left.

Here are other numbers released by the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday:

 As of Sunday, June 19:
  • 9,174  Jasper County households have registered with FEMA.  FEMA has approved $12,839,913.48  for Jasper County applicants
  • 528 Newton County households have registered with the FEMA hotline. FEMA  has approved $528,218.68 for Newton County applicants.
  • Statewide, 14,072 households in Missouri have registered with FEMA.  Over $23,999,813.47 has been approved for all Missouri applicants. (The statewide number includes  information from Newton and Jasper counties)

Missouri residents who have suffered damages since May 9, 2011 in the declared counties are eligible to register with FEMA.

The deadline for households to register with FEMA is July 8, 2011.

In Joplin, there are two Disaster Recovery Centers  where citizens can register or check on the status of their application .

 Residents of the Joplin area who were impacted by the May 22 tornadoes and severe storms are encouraged to visit the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers this week at the following locations:

THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS DEBRIS REMOVAL REPORT, as of Sunday, June 19:

The Army Corps  of Engineers has removed 597,550 cubic yards of tornado related debris from residential areas in Jasper and Newton counties. This figure represents 19.9 percent of an estimated 3 million cubic yards of debris

THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY REPORT, as of Saturday, June 18:

Since May 29, the U.S. Environment  Protection Agency (EPA) removed 43,411 household hazardous waste items from the disaster area in Joplin.
