SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A couple has collected more than 500 copies of the Holy Bible to distribute to tornado victims in and around Joplin.   Stacey and Glen Bright got the inspiration during a trip to Joplin while helping a friend sort through what was left of her apartment blown apart in the storm.

In the middle of the rubble, they found a Bible and wondered how many other tornado victims had lost theirs.  When they came back home, they got busy calling on family members, friends and fellow members of their church at Praise Assembly of God to donate Bibles.

The Brights were able to get help from the headquarters of the Assemblies of God in Springfield.  They started a Facebook page called “Bibles for Joplin.”

Soon, the Bibles started rolling in, some from as far away as Ohio, Colorado and Massachusetts.   In a short time, the Brights have received more than 500 Bible with promises of more to come.

Most of the Bibles are at the couple’s home for the time being.  Others are being kept at their church until they and their friends deliver them on Wednesday to churches in Joplin -- including Faith Assembly of God, which was damaged by the tornado and is now holding services in a Holiday Inn hotel.
