One-stop shop opens Tuesday for Joplin tornado victims to get help from 13 state departments

JOPLIN, Mo. -- State officials will open a Resource, Recovery and Rebuilding Center at 705 Illinois Ave., Building A, Suite 12, on Tuesday.   The facility will serve as a one-stop shop for people who have been affected by the tornado and who need help with temporary housing, unemployment assistance, driver’s licenses and other identification cards, and other issues.  Agencies that will be represented at the center include:

  • Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (K-12 education issues)
  • Department of Economic Development (small-business resources, business incentives)
  • Department of Health and Senior Services (public health, disease prevention)
  • Housing Development Commission (temporary housing assistance)
  • Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration (insurance issues, complaints)
  • Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (temporary unemployment assistance, Disaster Unemployment Assistance)
  • Department of Mental Health (grief counseling, mental health services)
  • Department of Natural Resources (clean-water, solid waste, environmental issues)
  • Department of Public Safety (state emergency management, response issues)
  • State Emergency Management Agency (emergency response, shelters, other issues)
  • Department of Revenue (driver’s licenses, identification cards, certificates of title)
  • Department of Social Services (food assistance, other services)
  • Division of Workforce Development (Career Centers, job training, services for unemployed individuals)
