10pm Update

A line of severe storms is now moving into eastern sections of the Ozarks.  Earlier in the night storms produced hail to the size of softballs with numerous reports of tennis and baseball size hail.  The line then transitioned into producing very high winds in excess of 60 mph.  The winds took down large trees and damaged several building, including ripping off a chunk of roof near Rome Missouri.  A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for easern sections of the Ozarks until 5am.  However most, if not all, of the severe weather will be out of the viewing area around midnight.  A brief bit of clearing can be expected in the morning before clouds return later in the day.  See the discussion below for the rest of the forecast.

Storms Firing Again Tonight

The upper level low is slowly working its way across Kansas.  A warm and humid atmosphere remains in place over the Ozarks.  The upper low is helping to lift this tropical air mass and produce strong to severe thunderstorms.  Baseball size hail was reported near Cedar Gap southwest of Mansfield.  Storms tonight will be capable of large hail, damaging winds and possibly a small tornado.

Colder Weather on the Way

The upper level low will spin over the Ozarks Friday and Saturday.  Isolated showers are possible with the passage of the cold air core.  The highest chances of rain will occur in the far eastern and northeastern counties.  Temperatures will cool off drastically.  In fact temperatures will be down some 30 degrees from earlier in the week.  The cold weather will last through the entire weekend.

Warmer Weather

Next week the upper level low will spin off through the Ohio Valley.  a small ridge will reform over the Ozarks and return sunshine to the region.  The cold air will slowly give way to warmer weather with highs in the 70s possible by end of next week.

Sunny Skies,
