April 25, 2011

Branson, MO —            The fire that heavily damaged a home at 802 Sunset in Branson last night was caused by lightning.

Floodwaters created several issues for firefighters battling the flames.

On the way to the fire, we're told rescuers had to drive through standing water near Alexander Park and Sunset Park, along Lake Taneycomo.

Also, they found the water had covered a fire hydrant they wanted to use about 2 blocks away. No injuries reported to the newsroom as a result of this fire.

All of the RV campers at the city campground have been evacuated as water is rising into the campground area.

At Branson Landing, water has risen over the boardwalk by the lake and is getting close the lower level garages. Power has been shut down inside the Branson Landing parking structures and propane shut off on the lower level of the Landing, which affects restaurants on the east side along the lake. No water is in any of the businesses. The Landing was built to withstand a 100 year flood.

Table Rock lake stage is now at 922 feet. In 2008, during the Branson floods, the lake crested at 933.

No businesses including theaters, restaurants and hotels along highway 76 have been negatively affected by the high water and heavy rains.

So far, Stockstill Park along Roark Creek has not flooded, but water from the creek is coming dangerously close to pouring into the park.
