Groups host free light bulb exchange in Springfield on Saturday

April 13, 2011|edited news release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Partnership for Sustainability is partnering with Harry Cooper Supply to offer a one-to-one compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb exchange this Saturday.  Families can bring up to five incandescent bulbs to trade even for up to five CFL bulbs.

15w CFLs are equivalent to 60w bulbs, but use 75 percent less energy and last five times longer. For example, five CFLs used an average of five hours per day will save almost $1,000 over the life of the bulbs.

Bulbs will be available in a convenient drive-thru on the west side of the Discovery Center, 438 St. Louis St., or inside the Discovery Center from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., or while supplies last.  Those without a bulb to exchange can earn one by visiting five vendor booths promoting green products and services inside the Center.

Also on April 16, Partnership for Sustainability is sponsoring a free day at the Discovery Center, and hosting the 41st Annual Earth Day Celebration with Springfield/Greene County Choose Environmental Excellence.
