SPRINGFIELD — An accident involving a tractor trailer has all eastbound lanes of I-44 closed at U.S. 65.
It happened around 6:15 Saturday evening. The rig was westbound on I-44 when it crossed into the median, hit the collision cables then a concrete support for the 65 overpass.
An eyewitness, who's also an over-the-road driver, said he's never seen a crash that bad before.
The Highway Patrol says the driver was able to walk away, but his load, 40,000 pounds of mayonnaise, was blown across the entire interstate especially the eastbound lanes.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says this accident will shutdown all eastbound lanes of I-44 at mile marker 82 for eight hours. Officials say they need to clear the gallons of mayannoise before the rains begin later this weekend.
