WINTER'S GLOOM WINS THE DAY

Low clouds and cold winds will grip the Ozarks through this afternoon.  A flurry can't be ruled out, but it should be fairly isolated.

A few saw snow late last night and early this morning.  Reports of a dusting of new snow came in from Stockton and Lebanon... while in Cole Camp, trusty weather watcher Tom called in 1".

AVERAGE HEATING TAKES A BREAK

Average high temperatures are now in the low 50s for Springfield.  At their lowest point in the year, it's only in the low 40s... and yet today's high will likely hold in the upper 30s.  With the clouds and cold winds from the Northeast, there's little to be done to combat the latest Canadian airmass that's rules the roost.

Some sun make poke out along and South of the Arkansas line... but most should be mostly cloudy this afternoon.

SATURDAY WARMUP

As winds become Southerly through Saturday, clouds will remain over the Ozarks... but you'll certainly see the sun from time to time.

Expect highs in the upper 50s to low 60s with dry conditions to start the weekend.

SEVERE STORMS ON SUNDAY?

With more moisture and instability returning to the Ozarks Sunday, it's likely that we'll see thunderstorms.  It's possible some of those may be strong enough to produce severe weather.  The first sign will be storms developing near the OK-KS borders as singular storms.  These could be the most dangerous... before they merge into a line and march east through the late-night hours of Sunday and into the very early morning Monday.

Remember: severe weather includes hail greater than 1" in diamter, wind gusts over 57 miles-per-hour, or a tornado.

Any of the above criteria are possible Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, but hail and wind will be the primary concerns as we see it now.

Stay tuned to KY3 on-air and online for the latest forecasts and severe weather updates all weekend long.

Have a great weekend,
