Subcontractor on new National Guard building is accused of hiring illegal aliens

January 24, 2011|edited news release

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Labor’s Division of Labor Standards, along with federal authorities, initiated an investigation on Monday into unauthorized alien workers employed by a subcontractor to complete insulation work on a building built with public funds.

The DLS received information about unlawful activity involving a subcontractor hired to complete insulation work on the Missouri National Guard Helicopter maintenance facility building (AVCRAD) in Springfield.  During the course of the joint investigation, it was determined that workers on-site did not have proper legal documentation.

As a result of the discovery of the unauthorized alien workers, the Department referred the matter to the attorney general’s office.  State law prohibits a business entity or employer from knowingly employing, hiring for employment, or continuing to employ an unauthorized alien to perform work within Missouri.
