January 22, 2011|by KY3 News

Neosho, Mo -- A Newton County man accused of killing of his brother-in-law has pleaded not guilty.

Terry Smith, of Goodman, waived his formal arraignment this week on charges of murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Steven Gunn last month.

On December 12, 2010, Newton County deputies were sent to a house on Sorrel Road in reference to a shooting.

There, they found Gunn, 44, dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Gunn's wife told authorities that her brother had come to the house and shot her husband to death.

Smith was later arrested at a Goodman residence by deputies with the McDonald County Sheriff's Department.

Smith is in the Newton County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 cash-only bond; his next court appearance is scheduled for February 4th.
