Springfield MO police: woman lied about being assaulted by 2 men outside party

November 19, 2010|by KY3 News | newsalerts@ky3.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A spokesman for the city police department says a woman admitted she lied about being thrown into a car and assaulted by two men during the night.  Police say they will recommend to prosecutors next week that the woman be charged with filing a false police report.

The woman told police that she was grabbed when she stepped outside a house party to make a telephone call near the Missouri State University campus.  The woman told police that it happened around 12:30 a.m. Friday in the 500 block of East Madison Street.

Police say the woman initially told them that two men grabbed her and put her in the back of a white car.  She said one man drove around the area while another pointed a gun in her face.  She also said the men used a piece of glass to cut her arm, then dropped her off on the same street.  Police said she refused medical treatment.

The police department spokesman didn't say if the woman told detectives why she made up the story.
