Arkansas Razorbacks: Hogs dominate South Carolina on offense, defense

November 06, 2010|Chris Replogle, KY3 News

COLUMBIA, Sc. - The Southeastern Conference's top passing offense and itsworst passing defense met head-to-head Saturday night.

The offense won.

Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 303 yards and a touchdown, to lead the Razorbacks to 41-20 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The Hogs improved to 7-2, 4-2 in the SEC.  The Gamecocks fell to 6-3, 4-3 in the SEC.

Mallett's strong, right arm didn't have to do it all for Arkansas' explosive offense.  Sophomore tailback Knile Davis rushed for 110-yards and three touchdowns.

South Carolina answered Arkansas' first scoring drive in the first quarter, a touchdown pass from Mallett to Cobi Hamilton.  The Hogs then scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 24-10 halftime lead.

The Hogs put it away with ten quick points to start the third quarter.  Davis crossed the goal line from a yard out for his third touchdown.  Freshman kicker Zach Hocker added a 51-yard field goal on the next possession.  The kick was Hocker's career-long and ninth longest in school-history.

Arkansas' defense earned praise too.  It limited highly-touted freshman running back Marcus Lattimore to just 30-yards and no touchdowns.  Lattimore played sparingly in the second half after a knee injury.  Sophmore receiver Alshon Jeffrey caught seven passes for 99-yards to lead the Gamecock offense.

The Hogs return to Fayetteville for the final time this season Saturday against the University of Texas-El Paso.  Kickoff is at 6:00PM on ESPNU.
