Charitable foundations make big gifts to help feed hungry people in the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Jeannette L. Musgrave Foundation and the Roy W. Slusher Foundation are making sizeable grants toward feeding the hungry in a multi‐county initiative called Feeding Hope in 2010. A news conference at Ozarks Food Harvest on Wednesday morning revealed the recipients of the nonprofit organizations' grants.

Grant recipients of the Musgrave Foundation total gift of $112,000 include Convoy of Hope, Crosslines, Springfield Community Center, Springfield Victory Mission, The Kitchen, The Salvation Army–Springfield and Ozarks Food Harvest.

Those organizations who shared a grant in the amount of $56,500 from the Slusher Foundation are Christian Action Ministries, Christian Associates of Table Rock Lake, Church Army Branson, Lives Under Construction Boys Ranch, Gift of Hope–My Neighbor's Pantry and Salvation Army– Branson.

Grantees, who will distribute more food to the hungry this year thanks to the Foundations, discussed the increasing demand for food as the recession persists into the New Year. Among those in attendance was Branson Mayor Raeanne Presley, who spoke on behalf of grant recipients in Taney County and Stone County.

This distribution from the Musgrave and Slusher Foundations is in addition to the foundations' ongoing support of area nonprofit agencies. The Boards of both foundations hope this additional gift will encourage others in the community to help meet this pressing need.

The Feeding Hope in 2010 grants will help stock food pantries during a time when the need is great following the holiday season.
