Arkansas Razorbacks: The math adds up for quarterback Ryan Mallett

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett won a distinguished award: the 2009 national performer of the year by the College Football Performance Awards. The College Football Performance awards are based upon objective scientific rankings that tell the extent of players' effectiveness for their teams.

The rankings use meta-algorithms derived from differential equations, statistics, and probability -- no joke.

Mallett threw for 3,624 yards and 30 touchdowns in his sophomore season. He beat out University of Houston senior quarterback Case Kennum and Ole Miss senior running back Dexter McCluster.
